In the past, I have reviewed what are called “Data-Entry” programs (or in some cases, they are called “Type At Home” programs). My feelings have been quite two-fold. Let me explain:

1) Is it fair to review (and even recommend) a program that is misleading from the beginning?

2) In some cases, I thought that the programs were OK, so should that be enough to recommend them?

I have relied on my second notion on the topic and provided reviews of Data Entry Programs…until now.

First of all, if you type “data entry” into any search engine, you will get a lot of programs that will tell you that if you just fill out a few advertising forms, you will make hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of dollars. This sounds a little too good to be true, right?

Believe it or not, just two or three years ago, this was very true! What these programs are suggesting is essentially affiliate marketing in its primitive state. At the infancy of search engines and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) programs (like Google Adwords), one could sign up for an affiliate program and then directly promote that product on a PPC. You will fill out an Adwords ad (“data enter”) and then send the clicker directly to your product’s true home page. This is called direct affiliate marketing. There are no intermediate landing pages, no web page designs, nothing!

This no longer works any more. Search engines have wised up. First, they only allow one ad per URL. This means that if people want to promote Sirius radios (for example), only one person will be able to bid for this specific website address on Adwords. Placement of this ad usually goes to the highest bidders. For newbies, this price is usually not within a profitable budget. Secondly, companies like Google also adjust the bids by the quality of the landing page. This prevents re-directing websites and dummy landing pages.

So if direct affiliate marketing no longer works, what are data entry programs really selling you? Good question! Some are actually hip with the times and are really just affiliate marketing programs (teaching you about landing pages, etc. Read more about affiliate marketing). Others still promote exactly what I just wrote about, and this does NOT work any more.

Over the last few months, I reviewed a few programs that I thought that were OK. Then, mega-eBook distributor Clickbank decided to pull the plug on all data entry products: Too many returns. I Still, I held strong with my reviews. Then Google decided to disapprove any ads related to Data Entry. I contacted them and asked them why? Here is what they said:

“Please know that at this time, due to multiple complaints, Google policy

does not permit advertisements for data entry affiliate programs. This
includes ads which direct users to sites that promote the creation or data
entry of other ads directing users to the same site. It has come to our
attention that some of these sites fail to disclose that there may be
significant costs to advertisers associated with these programs, such as
the costs incurred in creating Pay-Per-Click accounts with programs like AdWords.” – Adwords Support

Wow! These misleading programs must really be making people mad. But what did they do to finally make me pull them from my site? Simple: Bad Business! In the few months that I promoted these programs, I did have some visitors who were not happy with the product. This happens. All of these products had money back guarantees. However, getting these companies to respond to our emails and requests was virtually impossible. As someone who supported these programs, I was literally embarrassed and very upset. These programs were a reflection of me and my review. They did not even give me nor my visitors the common courtesy of a response. Since my “Data Entry” problems, I now spend time contacting the authors prior to actually reviewing the programs.

Are “Data Entry” programs a scam? In most cases, yes. They no longer work. For the few cases that are just poorly named products disguised as affiliate marketing programs, I found the service and the support so dreadful that I can no longer even give them the privilege of having their link appear on my site.

How do you decide or differentiate  between the two? What are they similar and how are they different?

Putting it simply, data entry is simply typing. You are entering data into a computer system or typing minutes from a meeting. These jobs can be either work from home jobs or a job outside of the home depending on the company. With this kind of work you can be doing a wide range of things. You may be entering things like customer names and address into a database, you could be processing customer orders, or you could even be typing memos or meeting minutes that someone has written in short hand. Basically with data entry work you would be typing or entering anything your employer’s needs completed. To be qualified for this type job, you should be able to type fast with accuracy. Data entry can be a fast paced job, so you need to be able to complete your work quickly.

Transcription is very similar to data entry work. You will be typing numerous things like meeting minutes. The difference here is that you are typing them from an audio file. While some transcription work is completed outside the home, a lot of it is home based work. With transcription you can also work in a specific field. Australia – Immigration Issues And You!

Australia seems to be in the grip of schizophrenic policy-making at the moment.  On the one hand, they are desperate for immigrants to come and work in Australia to help fill the existing skills gaps, and on the other, they are continually tinkering and tweaking immigration rules to make it more difficult for people to actually make the move. So what’s going on?

Australian Immigration issues are complex.  Do they want people to come and help or don’t they?  Do they have a skills gap or don’t they?  Why is Australia closing borders for one sector, but pushing to open up more for another?  Confusing as it seems at the moment, there is a reason for this dilemma.

Immigration has had a major impact on Australian life for many centuries.  The first European round started with the dumping of British convicts in 1788, when upto 160,000 convicts where shipped to the Australian colonies. 

After that, the growth of the woollen industry and gold rush created a huge demand for overseas  workers which were mostly satisfied by Chinese, British and Irish immigrants eager to escape poverty and unemployment back home. (Nothing new there then!).  Other nationals soon followed.

Australia’s migration programme today attracts hopefuls from over 185 different countries.  Migrant workers swell the tax purse and create more business for the country overall as tax contribution outweighs the extra cost of services.

So far so good.  Everyone should be very happy.

But there is a downside.

Australia is also attracting huge numbers of refugees desperate to escape economic meltdown and fear of persecution.  Arriving via the back door through boat smugglers and human trafficking, lives have been lost and the Australian economy drained as few refugees are repatriated and therefore require economic support.

Understandably, politicians and citizens are concerned and the policy makers are trying to haul in the “Australian Life” dream in an attempt to keep control of its borders.

Jobs In Australia – Project Accountant Required!

Today’s featured job in Australia is for a Project Accountant.  As always, we like to keep an eye on breaking Australian news and today a question was raised as to whether you should buy Australian dollars now since the exchange rate against the US dollar is so high.  The news article was very helpful and dovetailed nicely into some expert advice which we thought would be worth sharing.

The American dollar is still the world’s reserve currency and comparison was made between the two dollars which showed that two and a half years ago,  the Australian dollar was trading at 0.63 US dollars and today it is above parity at $1.10 USD.

Since nobody knows how long this situation will last, a question was asked whether you should buy up lots of currency immediately if you are planning to travel or find work in Australia in the near future or simply wait until nearer the time?  Buying too early means you might make a loss if the value rises and buying too late means you risk missing out by having to pay more for your money.

The helpful advice recommends the following:

Spread the currency load!

Basically that means the best course of action is to buy some dollars now,  wait a while before getting more and then buy the rest  just before you go.  The benefits of this system are that if the rate drops, at least you get to enjoy some benefits and if it rises, you reap even more rewards.

Set and maintain required billing data in GBS (Oracle) and an accurate invoicing system consistent with contractual expectations, oversee collection of payments, review set up of new projects, review project Revenue Recognition via Exception Reports, contribute to monthly corporate reporting and undertake maintenace of budget and forecast in Hyperion.

The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification and be working towards CA or CPA.  A good understanding of Revenue Recognition is needed together with strong proficiency in Excel and experience in the use of Oracle or other large ERP system.  Project Accounting experience is preferred with an Engineering based organisation or project.

Another Ho-Hum day in paradise with more schizophrenic news from Australia.!  A snippet from the May 7th news reports that the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship has pegged its annual immigration target to below 170,000, despite the Business Council of Australia’s advice that it should look to increase the number by a further 10,000 to help keep the economy growing.

Not wishing to see the energy and resources industry boom slip behind targets through a lack of skilled immigration, it has urged the government to increase use of the temporary migration and 457 visas. The BCA would like to see around two-thirds of the immigration programme “skilled-based” to make sure Australia continues to get the skills necessary to keep the economy growing on an even keel. 

What a shame it all fell on deaf ears!

Finding work in Australia is competitive enough already, although you are far better placed to find a job if your skills are in demand. Unfortunately, if you come to the table with skills that are not in demand, you will probably find it nearly impossible to find work or get a visa.

For those determined to succeed in emigrating, best case scenario in this situation is to find a skill required and retrain.

Working Overseas – 18-45 Year Olds Find A Way To Escape UK Austerity

I came across a very interesting snippet in today’s newspaper.  Apparently, a new survey concludes that if you want to beat the austerity of the UK – Get out!  Emigrate.  Leave.  Vanish.  Scoot. Go and work overseas.   Well duh! Did we really need a survey to tell us that?

Apparently a recent survey of 1,000 consumers in the 18-45 age bracket indicated that more than 50% are thinking of moving abroad to escape the UK austerity measures.  Up to 89% think that there has been a decline in the job market over the last few years, with 54% having felt the blows personally.

Well now – lucky them. 

Firstly, this particular age bracket have age on their side.  Many countries do have an age ceiling for immigrants, as well as their own aging population to accommodate, so don’t want to be catering for any more!

Secondly, 18-45 year olds have more opportunities to retrain since health and strength have not diminished (generally speaking). 

Thirdly, they are at a time in life where it is much easier to pull up their roots and plant them somewhere else.  Life is still an adventure and there is a strong pull and determination to go and experience it – even if it means working overseas.

So, what is the answer if you fall between the 18-45 work bracket and want to escape the austerity of the UK? 

Skill shortages do exist – particularly in the mining and natural resources industry in Australia – and one of the best options that I can see is to save like crazy, invest in yourself and your own future, and learn a new skillset – fast. If you have the finances already available, why not consider taking your training in Australia (or the country of your choice)? It can be easier to get a job afterwards and you are already in place to find your new job.

Western Australia recently let it be known that it will require half a million overseas workers in the next decade to forestall future skills gaps. As a country, Australia is peddling like crazy to keep up with fulfilling natural resource export demands, provide training opportunities for her own citizens, as well as hiring the workforce required to keep the country going.  You may just find something to suit you!

What is the answer if you fall outside of the 18-45 work bracket and you want to escape the UK austerity ?  It’s a double whammy if you happen to slide between the Baby Boomer margins.  You now know that your pension pot will probably not tide you over and by the time you found this important piece of information out, it’s too late to emigrate!

Working In Australia – Are You A Chief Safety & Risk Engineer?

A construction contractor in Albany manfully parted with 300 historic gold sovereign coins dated C1800 his workers unearthed during some excavation work in a car park.   Valued in excess of $500,000, the cache was found buried beneath concrete  next to a building.  The haul was handed over to the property owner, a local businessman , who had employed the contractors to work for him.  Sadly a thorough search of the rest of the property came up empty.
